Today’s prompt  was to write a nocturne. Well, some might say I am a little obsessed with the night sky but I here it is.

The wolves are at the door again.
I change the track.

The howl in your chest
suggests sleep. An arc of sweat

grows solid on the bed
like a chalk outline:

this has happened:
here lies the evidence.

I had hoped for a first frost
but all that glitters

out there in the dark
is the shifting breath of the pack

and Orion’s Belt which is stoic
through the window. The moon

is turned on and ready,
a motion light triggered

by a swathe of clouds
that mooch in slow packs;

they soften the feeling
that I should not be here.
